In his new role, Kittel will be tasked with overseeing the design and implementation of the company growth strategy.

Dr James Palmer, CEO of Silentium Defence, welcomed Kittel to the board, reflecting on his industry calibre and expertise.

“REDARC is one of South Australia’s best examples of critical capability delivered to Defence, consumer, and commercial customers via an innovative, homegrown business,” he said.

“We are thrilled to access Anthony’s experience at this stage in our own growth journey, and to leverage it to further accelerate our strategy to deliver world-class passive radar systems at scale, both locally and into international markets.”

Reflecting on his appointment, Kittel said he looked forward to supporting Silentium’s work to enhance defence capability.

“I recognise in Silentium, the team and technology required to give our ADF an edge in what is a fast-evolving and challenging geopolitical and operational environment,” he said.

“Sustained situational awareness, quality sovereign data, and 100 per cent custody of Australian skies has never been more critical.

“Silentium is the only company in the world using passive radar to deliver that capability, and I’m proud to play a part in helping to ensure its potential is realised in full.”

Silentium, which currently supports $11 million in Defence contracts, is testing its passive radar systems across Army, Navy, and Air Force.

The company contributes to a number of national programs, including AIR6500 and the Modernisation of Maritime Electronic Warfare program.

Silentium supports a workforce of approximately 60 full and part-time employees, and is targeting 40 per cent year-on-year growth over the next five years.

“We have proven the value of our passive radar capability for Defence, and our pipeline is strong,” Dr Palmer said.

“Now is the time to scale our team and operations to deliver that capability at the volume and quality our customers expect and need.”
