The defence technology company has opened a new advance manufacturing facility in Sydney.

Mission systems and armoured vehicle simulation manufacturer Thomas Global Systems has unveiled its new advanced manufacturing facility in Newington, NSW at a ceremony attended by Commonwealth Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic and local member for Reid Sally Sitou.
The new facility is expected to support the manufacture of 32 containerised immersive tactical training (ITT) simulators, which are used to support training on the Boxer combat reconnaissance vehicles (CRVs) and the Abrams M1A2 main battle tanks as part of the LAND 400 Phase 2 and Land 907 Phase 2 projects.
“Thomas Global Systems is excited to be developing sovereign manufacturing capability in complex immersive training systems here in Australia, which is dependent on our highly skilled engineering and technical workforce,” Thomas Global Systems CEO Angus Hutchinson said.
Once produced, the containerised training systems are to be deployed to defence bases across Australia.
This builds on the company’s decades of experience providing the ASLAV crew procedural trainer and the Collins Class submarine trainers.
Thomas Global Systems’ Sydney facilities have also supported the manufacture of cross domain solutions for the Australian Army’s land vehicles as well as the new range of Modular Reconfigurable Armoured Vehicle Computing System (MRACS).
“While Thomas Global has been around for six decades, our story is one of continuous innovation in high integrity electronic equipment and complex engineering,” Hutchinson added.
“The opening of a new advanced manufacturing premises represents another milestone in our growth.”
The opening of the new facility comes amid the official declaration of initial operational capability (IOC) for the $5.2 billion LAND 400 Phase 2 project.
This followed a test and evaluation process, which included deploying the Boxer during Exercise Sea Raider.
The Boxer CRV will now be operated by the Australian Army’s 7th Brigade.
