A Nova Systems test and evaluation engineer has been engaged to deliver tutorials as part of the Master of Systems Engineering at the University of South Australia, giving students realistic insights into test and evaluation.

The announcement follows a five-year memorandum of understanding between the University and Nova Systems, designed to enhance the pipeline of future defence, space and national security engineers.

As part of the agreement, Ben Luther, senior T&E engineer at Nova Systems, is expected to deliver weekly tutorials as part of the Principles of Test and Evaluation unity.

The unit is designed to provide students with fundamental knowledge into principles and methods of T&E.

Jim McDowell, chief executive officer of Nova Systems, welcomed the opportunity to support students.

“Nova Systems is a sovereign leader in test and evaluation, so there is real value in the company delivering the Principles of Test and Evaluation course for UniSA,” McDowell said.

“Not only is our new collaboration beneficial to students who will learn from real-world T&E experts; the opportunity is incredibly rewarding for our people to teach and engage with the next generation of systems engineering professionals.”

Matt Opie, University of South Australia director, defence and space, outlined that the relationship was critical.

“There are many benefits for UniSA working with companies like Nova Systems,” Opie said.

“UniSA’s collaboration with Nova Systems enables staff to ensure our education is aligned with real-world application and students to become familiar with the company as a potential employer. Nova Systems is a global company so there are opportunities for graduates to work in Australia but also around the world.

“Collaborations such as the UniSA and Nova Systems MoU benefit our nation because we’re producing research, graduates and employment and as a result, contributing to the Australian economy.”
