Engineering contract announced for submarine tactical systems

The US State Department has announced an engineering support contract for BYG-1 Tactical Control Systems used in Australian and US submarines.

The US State Department has announced an engineering support contract for BYG-1 Tactical Control Systems used in Australian and US submarines.

General Dynamics Mission Systems has been engaged for the $33,310,492 cost-plus-fixed-fee and cost modification contract with the US Naval Sea Systems Command, announced on 17 March.

AN/BYG-1 submarine combat control systems are used for tracking submarine and surface ship contacts, as well as targeting and employing of torpedoes or missiles. They are installed on US Navy Los Angeles, Seawolf, Virginia, SSGN, SSBN and Columbia SSBN Class submarines as well as Royal Australian Navy Collins Class submarines.

Funding for the contract will be drawn from US Navy research and development ($3,839,267), US Navy shipbuilding and conversion ($1,762,697), the Royal Australian Navy ($1,421,538), and other procurement funds. Work is expected to be completed by July 2024.
