The Australian Defence College at ADFA will undergo a major reorganisation to focus on delivering world-leading education and training for Australia’s military and public service leaders.

The Australian Defence College at ADFA will undergo a major reorganisation to focus on delivering world-leading education and training for Australia’s military and public service leaders.

In a rapidly changing international security and technological environment, the Australian Defence College has initiated a grass roots organisational reform to ensure Defence personnel, both ADF and APS, are intellectually prepared for contemporary and future operations through world-leading education and training.

The introduction of a comprehensive Joint Professional Military Education (JPME) for Defence personnel has afforded the Australian Defence College an ideal opportunity to review the organisational approach to delivering the new continuum.

Major General Mick Ryan said the successful delivery of future-focused education and training required a strategically-minded and integrated organisation, with a structure and business practices that have integrity at all levels.

"The evolution of the Australian Defence College realises this vision and will promote excellence in the delivery of military education and training, to ensure our personnel are intellectually equipped for contemporary and future security challenges," MAJGEN Ryan said.

The reorganisation, will take effect in January 2019, includes the amalgamation of the Centre for Defence and Strategic Studies and the Australian Command and Staff College to form the Australian War College, which will focus on JPME.

"The evolution of the Australian Defence College realises this vision and will promote excellence in the delivery of military education and training, to ensure our personnel are intellectually equipped for contemporary and future security challenges," MAJGEN Ryan explained.

While the War College will focus on education, joint individual training will be centralised in the Australian Defence Force Training Centre. The new Training Centre will lead the Australian Defence Force Warfare Training Centre, Peace Operations Training Centre, Defence Force Chaplains College, Defence International Training Centre, and Defence Force School of Languages to vocationally prepare personnel for current and emerging security challenges.

MAJGEN Ryan added, "Contemporary militaries are realising the importance of developing an intellectual edge through mastery of the profession of arms, and the Australian Defence College aims to be a world-leader in this field."
