QinetiQ appoints new head of engineering

QinetiQ Australia has announced the appointment of Simon Fredericks as its general manager, engineering and technical services, effective from 17 January.

Fredericks will be responsible for overseeing QinetiQ Australia’s engineering and technical capability portfolio, which includes its offering to DST Group, mine warfare operations at HMAS Waterhen, structural integrity services, and the planned expansion of the Engineering and Integration facility in Port Melbourne.

The new appointee joins QinetiQ from Rheinmetall Defence Australia, where he served as program director, technology transfer and AIC.

Fredericks also holds experience in the automotive sector, serving for over 17 years at General Motors Holden.

“QinetiQ has a well-earned reputation for providing high quality engineering solutions and technical services across defence and commercial industry,” he said following the announcement.

“I’m excited to join a team focused on developing their people while providing a professional, adaptable and enduring sovereign engineering and technical services capability to industry.”

QinetiQ Australia managing director Greg Barsby welcomed Fredericks to the role, adding the incoming GM is well placed to spearhead the company’s engineering and technical services offering.  

“His extensive experience across the defence and engineering sectors aligns well with our commitment to expanding our sovereign engineering and integration capabilities for defence and Industry,” he said.

“We’re confident that Simon’s expertise will support the continued growth of our engineering and technical services teams across the country.”
