Australian firearms, weapons and munitions company NIOA has commenced the organisation’s largest recruitment drive in its 50-year history, the company recently announced.

Off the back of several large defence contracts, the recruitment drive is expected to support capabilities across the business, from engineering to business development, warehouse operations and administration in Brisbane, Melbourne, Canberra, and regional NSW and Victoria.

“The growth of the business in recent years has created new employment opportunities right across the company,” global chief executive Robert Nioa said.

“It’s certainly a busy time but also an exciting time and as an Australian company it is great to be able to offer jobs locally.”

According to company statistics, NIOA has hired an average of one additional staff member a week during the 2021-22 financial year.

“It’s also a show of strength in our industry in creating the jobs of the future,” Nioa continued.

“NIOA is always focused on attracting outstanding people wherever we operate to ensure we are well equipped for future opportunities.”

Growth projections for NIOA estimate that the company will employ over 200 staff by the end of the year, up from 89 in 2020.

The recent growth has come following several large defence contracts secured by the company, including 30mm ammunition for the LAND 400 Phase 2 program, 120mm ammunition for the Abrams Main Battle Tank, stage 1 of tranche 1 for LAND 159 Lethality Systems program and LAND 17 – IC.2 Future Artillery Ammunition.

Last year, NIOA further established a new subsidiary to compete for the federal government’s $1 billion Guided Weapons and Explosive Ordnance enterprise, dubbed the Australian Missile Corporation.
