Defence has been taking action to advance its technology, with the recent announcements of the second tranche of the Defence Innovation Hub investments. Now it is after bidders for earth science service and technology.

The Department of Defence (DoD) has released a request for tender (RFT) for the design and development of an enterprise level system.

The system would be known as the Foundation METOC Information System and used for the ingest, storage, management, production and dissemination of meteorological and oceanographic (METOC) data to make available together with analysis and visualation tools for Defence users. The RFT closes on 14 August.

Defence is no stranger to visualisation tools, South Australian company D2D CRC earlier this year licensed its visualisation software to Esri Australia to further develop it for the DoD.

Defence has also continued to issue a steady stream of refurbishment and upgrade RFTs to upgrade its ageing establishments.

The majority of work required is within NSW and Queensland and varies widely in scope.

Some of these works include internal and external repair and repaint to Building 1, 2 and 5 and Banksmeadow Depot NSW, the replacement of the local emergency generator at RAAF Williamtown, upgrade works to base Defence Common Access Card reading system with face to card recognition software and ancillary hardware, including image viewing screens and enhanced CCTV, intercom and lighting and electrical infrastructure at Gallipoli Barracks, Enoggera, QLD.
