All the latest vehicles and gadgets have been put on display for the Avalon International Air Show in Melbourne from February 28 to March 5.
The event is back after a four-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It hosts increased patronage this year with 798 companies in attendance, which is 14 per cent more than in 2019, and more than 234 key representatives of government, military, industry and interest groups — 50 per cent more than in 2019.
Royal Australian Air Force Air Commodore Scott Winchester, director general for the Australian International Airshow, said AVALON 2023 was all about engagement.
“It’s a great opportunity to demonstrate to the Australian public, defence industry and other senior leaders from around the world, our fifth-generation leading technology, and also to discuss what’s around the corner, what our emerging technologies are and to see the art of the possible,” he said.
“And this is where this airshow is so critical, to provide that environment to get that collaboration together across the entire enterprise.”
Justin Giddings, chief executive officer of AVALON 2023 organiser AMDA Foundation, said AVALON 2023’s success reflected a buoyant Australian industry.
“AVALON is a platform for engagement between industry, government, defence and the civil aviation, aerospace and space communities,” he said.
“The success of AVALON 2023 reflects a buoyant industry that is looking to the future capability needs of the Australian Defence Force and civil aerospace and space customers. [The] industry is demonstrating that it can fulfil those needs from within Australia, sustaining a sovereign capability that contributes to both the security and national economy of all Australians.”
