The C-27J aircraft will be deployed with the Azerbaijan Air Force after a commercial collaboration between Italy and Azerbaijan was reached between the defence ministers of the two countries.
The agreement is part of the extensive modernisation program of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, with support from technical round table discussions with the Italian Ministry of Defence.
“Initially linked to the energy sectors, the collaboration between Italy and Azerbaijan is now also extended to defence industry products thanks to the valuable contribution provided by the Italian Ministry of Defence working group,” a Leonardo spokesperson said on 8 June.
“Deployed in the most challenging geographic, environmental and operating conditions, Leonardo’s C-27J Spartan is an aircraft capable of executing a vast range of defence and civil protection missions.”
C-27J aircraft are designed for military transport missions, paratrooper airdrop missions, “last mile” tactical troop support, special forces operations, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
