The government of the Netherlands will become the fifth international customer to use Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range (JASSM-ER) under a new agreement.

The government of the Netherlands will become the fifth international customer to use Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range (JASSM-ER) under a new agreement.

US and the Netherlands officials formalised a letter of offer and acceptance agreement to purchase Lockheed Martin’s Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile Extended Range, said a company statement released on 29 July.

“We’re honoured to partner with the US government to provide the Netherlands Armed Forces with the combat-proven and mission-effective weapon system to meet their ever-evolving strategic defence needs,” said Scott Redmerski, JASSM program director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control.

The latest generation of JASSM-ER includes enhancements to hardware and software, providing increased capabilities and more flexible options to match the warfighter’s evolving mission sets.

JASSM has previously been utilised for more than 20 years with the US Air Force to provide long-range, precision engagement capabilities for air-to-ground missions.

“The combat proven and mission effective weapon system is designed to destroy high-value, well-defended targets from significant standoff range, keeping aircrews well out of danger from hostile air defence systems without compromise to lethality or reach,” the statement from Lockheed Martin said.
