The government of Israel has requested to buy new F-15IA multi-role fighter jets, air-to-air missiles, tactical vehicles, and munitions in a series of US foreign military sales.

Israel has requested to buy up to 50 new F-15IA multi-role fighter aircraft, as well as mid-life update modification kits for its existing 25 F-15I multi-role fighter aircraft under a possible US$18.82 billion foreign military sale approved by the US Secretary of State.

The US Congress was notified of the possible deal by the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) on 13 August.

The sale also includes 120 F110-GE-129 engines, 90 advanced display core processors II, 75 APG-82(V)1 active electronically scanned array radars, 50 AN/AAQ-13 LANTIRN navigation pods with containers, 320 LAU-128 advanced medium range air-to-air missile launchers, integration and test support, equipment, classified software development, spare parts, consumables and accessories. Deliveries are estimated to begin in 2029.

“The United States is committed to the security of Israel, and it is vital to US national interests to assist Israel to develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defence capability. This proposed sale is consistent with those objectives,” a DSCA statement said.

“Incorporating F-15IAs into the Israel Air Force’s fleet of fighter aircraft will enhance Israel’s interoperability with US systems and bolster Israel’s aerial capabilities to meet current and future enemy threats, strengthen its homeland defence, and serve as a deterrent to regional threats. Israel will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces.

“The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The prime contractor will be the Boeing corporation.”

Under a second possible foreign military sale with Israel on 13 August, the US Secretary of State has approved the sale of 30 AIM-120C-8 advanced medium range air-to-air missiles, one AMRAAM guidance section and other equipment for US$102.5 million.

“AMRAAMs are a key aerial combat capability used to defend against airborne threats, such as the missile and drone salvo launched at Israel on April 14,” a statement published by the DSCA said.

“The proposed sale will improve Israel’s capability to meet current and future enemy threats, strengthen its homeland defence, and serve as a deterrent to regional threats. Israel will have no difficulty absorbing these articles and services into its armed forces.

“The proposed sale of this equipment and support will not alter the basic military balance in the region. The prime contractor will be RTX Corporation.”

In other possible foreign military sales, the government of Israel has requested to buy additional modified M1148A1P2 Load Handling System eight-tonne cargo trucks, armour kits, and equipment for an estimated cost of US$583.1 million.

In another possible foreign military sale, the government of Israel has requested to buy 50,000 M933A1 120mm high-explosive mortar cartridges with M783 fuses that will be added to a previously implemented case, approved by the US Secretary of State. The deal has an estimated cost of US$61.1 million.
