Bombardier Defense – A Solution to Multiple Missions at Once

Customized solutions for each mission

Bombardier is known around the world for the reliability, performance, and design of its Challenger and Global business aircraft, transporting industry leaders, heads of state, and some of the world’s most influential and high-profile individuals. With innovation in its DNA and a fleet of high-performance jets, Bombardier’s defense division uses the same customer-focused principles and proven capabilities to offer tailored and mission-specific solutions for governments, military, and other special mission operators around the world. Leveraging decades of engineering experience with hundreds of specialized Bombardier aircraft already in service worldwide, and an operational track record of more than 3 million fleet hours, Bombardier Defense adapts platforms for the demands of over 10 mission types.

In addition to the strength of its platforms and experience, what sets Bombardier apart in the industry is the flexibility it demonstrates working with customers. Bombardier tailors its offerings based on customers' needs and can provide a full spectrum of services including all-inclusive packages, where it handles everything from design to certification. This range of approaches ensures each client can customize their experience to fly in style and comfort, or to perform the mission successfully.

Business Jet to VIP and Head of State Transport

Clients from civilian, military and government backgrounds all appreciate the customer-centric approach to Bombardier’s offerings. Each available platform has zones that can be geared for productivity, and include ample meeting space, next-generation connectivity and room for passengers to rest between events. Bombardier aircraft cabins can be completely personalized and tailored to meet the individual preferences and needs of Heads of State & VIPs to make sure they are efficient, productive, and secure.

Head of State and other VIP transport may require a separate working space for security detail, higher bandwidth, or secured communications platforms to connect with their government back home. Bombardier can make these adjustments in-house or partner with providers to meet the capabilities needed by the client.

When coupled with Bombardier’s signature smooth ride and quiet cabins – which help reduce the fatigue associated with frequent travel for both passengers and crew – Bombardier not only helps passengers reach their destinations, but also allows them to function at their best when they arrive.

One plane, multiple missions

Bombardier’s Global and Challenger aircraft are optimal for a variety of missions, including medical evacuation (medevac). These aircraft can be used for the entire range of patient transport needs, pairing the right aircraft with personalized upgrades and tailored modification solutions. The cabin can be configured to cover the wide range of needs required for medevac flights – including air hospital, ICU, surgery, and infection control.

Bombardier partners with major medical equipment suppliers to ensure that the equipment on-board its aircraft is state-of-the-art and the highest performing, knowing that every detail counts in a life-or-death situation.

Bombardier’s platforms, especially the Challenger family of aircraft, are also the perfect candidate for search and rescue operations since the large observer windows can assist in visual search operations. Additionally, the air operable door enables the Challenger aircraft to provide rapid assistance to those in need.

These multi-mission aircraft even allow for flexibility between missions and can have the meeting space for a government VIP re-configured to become a passenger carrying aircraft by a crisis response team, simply by adding additional seats and moving the furniture around in a timely manner. A similar operation can be done to transform the plane for cargo transportation missions, but instead, zones on the aircraft can have the seating and furniture removed to install cargo nets. This kind of flexibility makes Bombardier solutions valuable for governments around the world.

Bombardier in Australia

Since 2022, Bombardier has a vibrant service centre at the Essendon Fields Airport in Melbourne that enhanced service capabilities for customers in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. The facility is strategically located less than 10 kilometers from the city’s business centre and allows ease of mind in servicing commercial, business aircraft, charter and general aviation aircraft and is a vibrant business aviation hub.

Bombardier’s missionized aircraft have also been strengthening its presence in Australia, which includes an in-service fleet of Medevac and Search & Rescue aircraft. Four Bombardier Challenger 604 platforms are currently in use to conduct search and rescue operations across the continent, on standby 24/7 to perform their critical mission. The platform is ideally suited to conduct lifesaving missions with its proven capabilities such as its short-field performance and low altitude flight abilities, and has been selected by customers seeking efficient, cost-effective solutions. With platforms that allow fast response times, cover large distances, and that stay in the air for longer periods of time, Bombardier is a key partner in promoting safety across Australia’s various geographies.

The Challenger series of aircraft travels at speeds comparable to a commercial jet airliner and can stay in the air for eight hours in normal standby configuration. In the case of the Challenger 604, the aircraft also has a flight range of close to 4,000 nautical miles, meaning that at any time, any of the four planes can conduct search and rescue operations anywhere across the Australian continent.

Bombardier Defense is committed to providing an enhanced level of service in Australia and recently opened an office in Adelaide. This office is integral to Bombardier’s goal of providing additional operational support for its missionized customers in the region. For decades, Bombardier has provided industry-leading, curated solutions for the most demanding government missions and military contractors worldwide. Bombardier’s newly inaugurated Australian office represents another significant milestone, strengthening the company’s position as an aviation leader both in the region and globally.
