A New Age of Airborne Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) Platforms
Rapidly changing environments and geopolitical landscapes have governments and militaries around the world focused on adapting their technologies and operations. In order to preserve national security, airborne platforms are being upgraded to offer long operational ranges and improved overall performances. Due to their versatility and proven track record, Bombardier’s Global and Challenger platforms are being selected to complete important missions, such as those for Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR).
Leveraging the experience gleaned from the design and production of hundreds of specialized in-service aircraft worldwide and an operational track record of more than 3 million flight hours, Bombardier Defense has become the go-to provider of solutions for a variety of missions worldwide. Bombardier Defense is known for its commitment to quality, reliability, and performance, and its aircraft have been the platform of choice for several missions across the world.
Designed, Manufactured and Serviced for Maximum Reliability
Bombardier Defense is home to world-class engineers trained to tailor Global and Challenger aircraft to exceed the unique requirements of the most demanding defense customers.
The flexibility and customization of the Bombardier aircraft are matched by the consistent performance of the platforms for both business needs and military operations. Bombardier Defense offers aircraft models that achieve a dispatch reliability and availability rate significantly higher than rates of purpose-built military platforms. This dependability provides armed forces operators with confidence, knowing that their platforms will be available when needed, regardless of theater or environment.
With worldwide support teams available 24/7, customers can count on a highly skilled network of technicians that can service the aircraft rapidly and efficiently. Accessible aftermarket care encourages customers to deploy their assets in different theaters, with the peace of mind that services for the aircraft are accessible in all regions.
Bombardier Defense’s Growing Presence in Australia and Asia-Pacific
Bombardier boasts over 5,000 in-service aircraft worldwide, including hundreds of specialized aircraft for different mission types, including in the Asia-Pacific region. With the opening of its Melbourne service centre in 2022, and the opening of a Bombardier Defense office in Adelaide earlier this year, Bombardier continues to cement its presence across Australia and in the western Pacific, while supporting a growing fleet with Bombardier’s technical expertise.
Bombardier Defense recognizes the need of armed services to have reliable, nimble and responsive suppliers capable of maintaining and servicing their aircraft. Bombardier is able to fulfill these requirements as an established OEM, with in-house engineering expertise and a worldwide service and support network. Due to this, customers no longer need to wait for long procurement and acquisition timelines to deploy new capabilities into the field.
Configurable Platforms Backed by the Expertise of a Global Service Network
To better serve customers and armed forces in Asia-Pacific, Bombardier developed local supply chains in Australia capable of supporting all Bombardier aircraft models, including defense assets. As such, Bombardier works with its teams to ensure it maintains a sufficient stock of high-demand consumables. With distribution hubs located in Chicago, Frankfurt, Singapore, and Hong Kong, ensuring global reliability and access to spare parts is guaranteed.
Bombardier Defense is prioritizing making its platforms more modular and easily configurable so that customers do not need to start a new program every time their objectives change. Not only does this help them achieve tactical goals, but it also helps lower operating costs. Operators require efficient maintenance and different fueling options such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), in order to spend as little time as possible out of commission, and more time delivering consistent results - mission after mission.
Bombardier Defense – an ISR Platform Recognized Worldwide
Bombardier’s Challenger and Global platforms offer a range of tactical advantages in support of ISR-missions since they can fly faster, farther and higher than legacy airborne sensor platforms.
The United States Army has selected Bombardier’s Global 6500 aircraft as the platform of choice for its High Accuracy Detection and Exploitation System (HADES) program. Deep sensing has emerged as the number one operational imperative for the U.S. military, as combatant commanders have identified the need to see farther and act faster across various conflict theaters as top modernization priorities. In addition to HADES, the U.S. Air Force also uses Bombardier Defense’s combat-proven Global platform for its Battlespace Airborne Communication Node (BACN) program. BACN translates waveforms from different airborne and satellite communications and integrates them in a common communication gateway, allowing service members to communicate effectively over long distances and across different technologies.
Bombardier Defense is also a key collaborator in the PEGASUS (Persistent German Airborne Surveillance System) program for the German armed forces, based on Bombardier’s Global 6000 aircraft. The PEGASUS aircraft, which completed its first flight this past fall, integrates signals intelligence (SIGINT) systems to provide high-altitude, persistent, long-range intelligence capabilities.
In addition to its Global aircraft, Bombardier’s Challenger aircraft can also be modified to support multiple missions, including ISR. The Finnish Border Guard selected SNC’s RAPCON-X™ solution with the proven Bombardier Challenger 650 aircraft as the multi-role platform of choice. This Challenger 650 aircraft offers best-in-class size, payload and flexibility.
Whether for airborne early warning, ISR, signals intelligence, or communication nodes, Bombardier Defense provides compelling reasons to consider platforms created for civilian use for different military missions. Bombardier’s Challenger and Global aircraft families have increasingly been deemed as the ideal solution for critical missions around the world. These platforms have proven themselves reliable and fully interoperable through versatile and successful programs, allowing Bombardier Defense to continue to position itself as the partner of choice for customers looking for the best solution.
