Boeing recently celebrated 20 years since establishing its defence headquarters in Brisbane.

Since then, Boeing’s aerospace portfolio in Queensland has expanded to include defence programs, autonomous systems, pilot training and services, and advanced research and development across both commercial and defence sectors.
Boeing Defence Australia general manager of operations Chris Smith said Boeing engineers, including those in Brisbane’s central business district and nearby suburbs, are creating the future of aerospace.
"I don’t think many people realise that over the past 20 years, Brisbane has been the birthplace of some of Boeing Defence Australia’s most cutting-edge military systems and technologies," said Smith.
"From sophisticated simulation and modelling facilities, to next-generation communications systems and high-tech training technologies – Boeing engineers here in Queensland and across Australia are well-and-truly at the forefront of aerospace innovation."
Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk congratulated Boeing and highlighted the importance of its ongoing presence in Queensland.
"My government is committed to making Queensland Australia’s innovation leader, and there is no better partner in working towards this goal than Boeing," the Premier said.
"We strongly support Boeing Defence Australia’s aim to become a billion-dollar business by 2020, creating more highly skilled, high value jobs for Queenslanders.”
Boeing’s presence in Queensland includes a team of more than 1,500 employees working across Boeing’s three business units and the company’s research and development organisations.
Last year, the company continued to expand its operations, opening its newest office in Adelaide, South Australia, as part of its expansion plans for the Australian defence industry.
The Adelaide headquarters is being used as a research, development and innovation hub for programs spanning C3I, surveillance, reconnaissance, and advanced experimentation and prototyping. BDA’s growth in Adelaide builds upon its SA team that has been executing on support contracts for the E-7A Wedgetail, P-8A Poseidon and Collins Class submarine.
