Nova Group has become the latest defence company subcontracted by Thales Australia under its OneSKY program.

The subcontract, signed on Thursday by Thales and Nova, was witnessed by Minister for Defence Christopher Pyne, who visited Thales in Melbourne to discuss OneSKY’s progress.
As reported by Defence Connect earlier this month, Frequentis Australasia has also been subcontracted by Thales Australia to support the OneSKY program, and will deliver a voice communication and airfield management solutions.
Under the OneSKY program, the Australian Advanced Air Traffic System (TAAATS) from Airservices and the Royal Australian Air Force’s Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS) will be replaced with a single integrated system to enable safety and capability improvements in conjunction with economic savings and reliability, and deliver a harmonised Civil-Military Air Traffic Management System (CMATS).
CMATS will be used by Airservices and the RAAF, unifying all of the separate air traffic management systems currently in use and replacing dated systems nearing their end of service.
“The OneSKY project will integrate the nation’s civil and military air traffic management systems ensuring Australia remains a global aviation leader,” Minister Pyne said.
“Increased safety and reductions in travel times and delays are some of the outcomes to benefit travellers in Australia.
“This project will support 450 specialist high-tech jobs, further developing Australian skills in complex project management, systems engineering and software development.”
In addition, Minister Pyne said that the subcontract will enable further jobs to be created.
“The sub-contract, signed [yesterday] between Thales and Nova, will generate a further 10 to 20 jobs, part of an expected 200 jobs through the supply chain,” he said.
“This is an important sub-contract for advanced testing and verification services at all 16 OneSKY sites around Australia.”
