The self-protection test equipment qualification means RUAG Aviation has secured a significant mandate for CAST-easy from the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) for use with the Tornado fleet operated by the German Bundeswehr.
CAST-easy is a unique, economical and reusable testing solution specifically designed to allow for safer testing of chaff and flare dispenser deployment, relying on electronics instead of pyrotechnics.
"Qualifying CAST-easy for the Tornado jet platform is an important and additional step in proving this simulator solution is suitable for any aircraft needing to rely on self-protection deployment options – jets, helicopters and transport aircraft," said Benjamin Wepfer, general manager aviation products, RUAG Aviation.
"The rigorous qualification test procedures validate our chaff and flare simulator’s performance according to exacting requirements. Vibration and acceleration capabilities were of particular interest on the Tornado platform. This qualification is further proof that CAST-easy is the safest, most reliable solution for testing dispenser units across the spectrum of demanding platforms."
CAST-easy supports all chaff and flare dispensers, independent of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) model.
"CAST-easy greatly reduces the systematic risk associated with the testing of chaff and flare dispensers used for aircraft self-protection. This even includes the marked absence of debris produced by pyrotechnics, which eventually finds its way to the ground," noted Wepfer.
