BAE Systems and WithYouWithMe partnership to upskill veterans

BAE Systems and WithYouWithMe partnership

BAE Systems Australia and WithYouWithMe (WYWM) have signed an agreement to re-train and upskill a squad of 10 veterans into information technology roles within the defence and security company’s national business.

BAE Systems Australia and WithYouWithMe (WYWM) have signed an agreement to re-train and upskill a squad of 10 veterans into information technology roles within the defence and security company’s national business.

As part of BAE's WithYouWithMe (WYWM) partnership, veterans will register interest via a jobs accelerator and assessment event being held in early November through WYWM. Applicants will be selected by their character traits, skills and potential rather than previous work experience.

WYWM is veteran-owned, technology training company specialising in diverse talent accessibility for the technology sector. It has a dual platform and service model that is designed to help upskill veterans through training, education and recruitment, supporting the transition from the military into fulfilling civilian careers.

BAE Systems is a leading employer of defence force veterans and was most recently recognised as winner of the Prime Minister’s Veteran Employer of the Year awards – large employer category. About 10 per cent of the company’s 5,000 employees are former Australian Defence Force recruits.

According to Danielle Mesa, chief people officer at BAE Systems Australia, the new partnership is a 'win-win' for both BAE and WYWM.

"It allows us to provide tailored pathways to veterans looking to work in technology focused roles and enables the company to build a sustainable future through purposeful workforce skilling initiatives,” Mesa said.

“There is enormous demand for skilled technology professionals and this is growing year on year in the Defence sector due to the rapid evolution of new and emerging technologies.”

The 10 successful applicants will complete a 12-week program that consists of on-boarding, transition and a comprehensive re-skilling phase. Once complete, the squad will be deployed to BAE Systems for 12 months, where they will continue to learn on the job.

Positions are available to applicants in South Australia and Victoria working across information technology disciplines such as Service Desk, Cyber Security, Systems Admin, Database Admin, Network Engineering and Application Specialist fields.

"Hidden veteran talent is everywhere,” WYWM CEO and co-founder Tom Moore added.

"Through our military-grade testing and training platform, we are able to bypass the single biggest employment barrier for veterans by empowering employers to focus on a veteran's potential to do the job, rather than their past experience.

“We're excited to be working with BAE Systems to place veterans into meaningful tech careers through our world-leading talent accessibility platform.”
