Effective border security is a major challenge across the Asia Pacific. Critical, persistent issues involving criminal activities include Translational Organised Crime, drug trafficking, the smuggling of weapons, contraband, and the illegal trafficking of humans.
If these threats were not enough to keep us awake at night there is always the issue of security from terrorist attacks which is certainly a major concern that drives many border security considerations.
