This conference will focus on the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). These are the regulations used to control the export of defense items that have any US component. ITAR is extra-territorial, which means that they reach beyond the US. Failure to comply with ITAR can mean a loss of business, but the biggest threat is the fines that it can result in. BAE Systems recently settled for ITAR (and other violations) for £79m, largely on ‘brokering charges’.
