Military Airlifting has seen steady growth in the Asia-Pacific region due to the increase in natural disasters which have happened in the last couple of years. Airlifting has been used during the Christchurch Earthquake, Queensland Floods, Tsunami 2004, and Tsunami 2011 in Japan, Earthquakes in China and most recently during the Thailand Floods in November 2011. There is a growing need for regional Air Forces to improve there current airlifting capabilites with the latest modern military airlifters. The airlifters being used by the armed forces at present are becoming aging and not up to the requirements needed to support tactical and strategic operations.
