Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedly met with executive director Charles Woodburn, managing director Gaby Costigan, and director of cooperation with Ukraine Christian Siar during a video meeting.
The meeting discussed localisation of production in Ukraine, an agreement to start work with the opening of the BAE Systems office in Ukraine, and the eventual start of repair and production facilities for the company’s products.
“We are ready to become a major regional hub for the repair and production of various types of BAE Systems products and are interested in a more global relationship than what we have now,” President Zelenskyy said via social media platform Telegram on 31 May.
The defence, aerospace, and security company designs and manufactures defence products and services for air, land and naval forces, as well as advanced electronics, security, information and technology solutions. They also design and deliver support combat vehicles, ammunition, precision munitions, artillery systems and missile launchers.
Ukrainian representatives have also been in talks with officials from the United Kingdom after United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak met with President Zelenskyy while attending the G7 Summit in Japan.
Ukrainian deputy heads of the Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva and Roman Mashovets held a video call with a UK delegation headed by National Security Adviser to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Timothy Barrow and Chief of the Defence Staff, chief military adviser to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Antony Radakin.
The meeting discussed strengthening Ukraine’s defence capabilities and effective security guarantees on the way to NATO membership, which will be discussed at the NATO Summit in Vilnius in July.
“The aviation coalition aimed at implementing the aviation component of the Ukrainian concept ‘Ukraine’s Sky Shield’ should start working in the near future, from training Ukrainian pilots now to getting Western-type combat aircraft in the shortest possible time,” Zhovkva said.
