Ratified by the United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary James Cleverly and Defence Secretary Ben Wallace and Poland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Zbigniew Rau and Minister for National Defence Mariusz Błaszczak, the 2030 partnership is set to expand the bilateral partnership laid out in the 2017 UK-Poland Treaty on Defence and Security Cooperation.
The United Kingdom Ministry of Defence explained the partnership will also support the military capabilities of both nations by increasing the frequency of joint training activities while ensuring that both nations’ approaches in NATO and the Indo-Pacific remain unified.
“Just as the UK and Poland fought together to preserve freedom in Europe during World War II, so today, the UK and Poland are standing together once more, at the forefront of international support for Ukraine,” Foreign Secretary James Cleverly said.
“Our 2030 partnership commits the UK and Poland to even greater defence, security, and foreign policy cooperation into the future.”
Ahead of the meeting, the representatives from both the United Kingdom and Poland prepared for the upcoming NATO summit in Vilnius, and their ongoing support for Ukraine.
The 2030 Strategic Partnership deepens the decades-long relationship between the two nations, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said.
“As historic defence partners and NATO allies, the UK stands with Poland to defend NATO’s eastern flank and support Ukraine against Russian aggression.
“The 2030 Strategic Partnership strengthens our commitment to develop closer military deployments and exercises and deliver on immediate and long-term capability projects.”
Minister Blaszczak said that there were no “question marks” regarding the relationship between the two companies, who will also collaborate on building a strong defence industry supply chain.
“Our cooperation is beneficial for both our countries, it strengthens security throughout the North Atlantic Alliance. We also share the same views on threats. We try to find the best possible solutions to deter an aggressor, to cause an increase in security on the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance. Our industrial cooperation is of utmost importance as well,” he said.
“Tomorrow, I will have the opportunity to talk to representatives of British companies with whom we are cooperating in the production of the Narew system, which is a short-range air and missile defence system, but also in the construction of frigates.
“We appreciate Polish-British cooperation. I am convinced that there are still many opportunities to strengthen these relations ahead of us.”
