The agreement, approved by Polish Minister of National Defense Mariusz Błaszczak, makes the country the first international customer to add Raytheon’s 360-degree active electronically scanned array LTAMDS radar to their air and missile defence architecture.
LTAMDS air and missile defence radar can be used against manned and unmanned aircraft, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and hypersonics. The letter of acceptance follows delivery and testing of four Patriot fire units for Poland, before system integration and check-out is completed in October.
“Poland’s expansion of its WISŁA program will fortify the country’s security and defence against a range of air and missile threats,” said Raytheon land and air defense systems president Tom Laliberty.
“With the introduction of LTAMDS, Poland will become the first country after the US to complement the combat-proven Patriot with LTAMDS, which provides extended range and full 360-degree coverage to detect and defend against complex, highly coordinated, multi-threat attack scenarios.”
Raytheon is expected to partner with nine Polish suppliers for various system elements and components to the Patriot system while five Polish industry partners will receive technology, equipment, and training to assist production and maintenance of LTAMDS components.
Six LTAMDS radars have been produced under contract for the US Army and are undergoing simultaneous testing at various government and Raytheon test sites.
