The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea state affairs chairman was shown an engineering centre and production workshops at Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Plant by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov and Khabarovsk Governor Mikhail Degtyarev.
Plant engineers, from state-owned aerospace and defence company United Aircraft Corporation, demonstrated modern digital technologies to the group as it inspected Su-35 fighter jet assembly production and Su-57 aircraft final assembly shops.
Guests were also shown Superjet 100 (SJ-100) fuselage compartments and wing assemblies being manufactured and assembled domestically, as well as an SU-35 fighter aircraft demonstration flight.
“We demonstrated to the leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea one of our leading aircraft production facilities,” Deputy PM Manturov said.
“We see the potential for cooperation both in the field of aircraft manufacturing and in other industries; this is especially important for achieving the tasks facing our countries to achieve technological sovereignty.”
The visit is part of a speculated munitions-for-technology deal between Russia and North Korea, after the group toured Vostochny Cosmodrome in far eastern Russia on 13 September. Russia is allegedly seeking artillery and rocket munitions to be used or replace those used in the Ukraine War, while North Korea is reportedly seeking to expand its own military technology in rocketry and satellites.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un also reportedly inspected a hypersonic missile system in Vladivostok and was given five explosive military drones, a VTOL “Geran-25” reconnaissance drone, and body armour as gifts during the visit.
