The United States’ Defense Security Cooperation Agency has approved nearly $2 billion in guided missiles sales for their two NATO partners.

The United States’ Defense Security Cooperation Agency has approved nearly $2 billion in guided missiles sales for their two NATO partners.

The State Department has given the US Congress the greenlight for a $700 million sale of Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missiles – Extended Range (AARGM-ER) to the government of the Netherlands.

The contract follows a request from the Netherlands to buy 265 AGM-88G AARGM-ER rounds, as well as associated kit including dummy missiles, software, repair parts, publication and transportation.

The capabilities are used for the destruction of radar emitters that are associated with enemy air defence systems.

The principal contractor will be Northrop Grumman Systems.

It was confirmed the same day that the US State Department provided approval for the possible sale of 360 of the rounds to Poland.

Valued at $1.275 billion, the Polish government requested to purchase 360 of the AGM 88G AARGM-ER rounds, as well as supporting kit.

Northrop Grumman has likewise been selected as the prime contractor.

Neither sale is expected to have an adverse impact on the United States’ defence readiness.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency explained that the realised sale value will likely be lower, with the quoted figure representing the highest estimated quantity and dollar value.
