Australian Assistant Minister for Defence Matt Thistlethwaite will travel to the US for the Australian American Leadership Dialogue from 8 to 12 July.
During the meeting, Assistant Minister Thistlewaite is expected to discuss commitments to regional stability, investing in the partnership, deepening security, cooperation, and cooperation through the AUKUS trilateral agreement.
“The annual Australian American Leadership Dialogue deepens the historic relationship between our two nations,” the Assistant Minister for Defence said.
“The United States is Australia’s principal strategic partner and I welcome this opportunity to reinforce that relationship.”
It’s understood that the Assistant Minister will visit Dallas-Fort Worth; meet with defence industry representatives; hold meetings with members of the US Congress and the United States Department of Veteran Affairs; and meet with national security and strategic policy leaders on defence policies, shared issues facing defence personnel and veterans, and discussions on pathways to achieve net zero by 2050.
Earlier this month, Australian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Richard Marles also announced plans to travel to the United States and represent Australia at the NATO Leaders Summit as a non-NATO member.
In addition, Deputy Prime Minister Marles will also attend the Australian American Leadership Dialogue to undertake a number of engagements with representatives of the US Congress and senior officials in Washington.
“The partnership between Australian and NATO reinforces our shared commitment to the rules-based international order,” Deputy PM Marles said.
“The Australian American Leadership Dialogue will reaffirm the strength of our alliance, as our nations continue to grow and adapt with our strategic circumstances.”
