The US Government has reportedly paused all military aid to Ukraine, according to multiple media reports in America.
The surprise announcement follows a recent televised heated argument between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump and US Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office.
Zelensky had travelled to Washington to sign a minerals deal as the US administration pushes for a swift conclusion to hostilities between Ukraine and Russia.
US President Donald Trump has reportedly ordered a pause and review of all military aid designated for Ukraine until the war-torn country’s leadership shows commitment to peace and appreciation to the US, according to media reports and unnamed sources within the US administration.
The pause reportedly includes all US military equipment in transit or awaiting transit, according to news reports.
In addition, it’s alleged that the pause order includes further instructions to reduce intelligence sharing and training for Ukrainian operations, pilots and troops.
US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and national security adviser Mike Waltz have also met to formalise the aid suspension – according to media outlet Axios.
The US has provided more than US$65.9 billion in military assistance to Ukraine since the Russian invasion in February 24, 2022 – according to the US State Department.
Pennsylvania Democratic representative Brendan Boyle, co-chair of the Congressional EU Caucus, has responded to the paused funding decision.
“Reckless, indefensible, and a direct threat to our national security,” Boyle said in a statement.
“This aid was approved by Congress on a bipartisan basis... Republicans and Democrats alike recognized that standing with Ukraine is standing for democracy and against Putin’s aggression.
“Yet, Trump, who has repeatedly praised Putin and undermined our allies, is now playing political games with critical military assistance.”
