A subsidiary of Radio Frequency Systems (Germany), RFS Australia has a long track record of participation in Australia’s defence industry.
BAE Systems Australia has announced that the acquisition will enable the company’s intellectual property, high frequency radar, and communications antenna designs to remain as Australian capabilities.
This is expected to include RFS’ subject matter experts.
The prime has confirmed that some of the RFS employees have transferred to BAE Systems Australia.
The RFS designs have been used in Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN), the High Frequency Modernisation program, Project Nullabor, and the REDFIN program.
To Andrew Gresham, managing director defence delivery at BAE Systems Australia, the acquisition will firm up Australia’s supply chain resilience.
“By acquiring the RFS capability, BAE Systems is building on more than 50 years of Australian innovation with future-targeted investment in our people, our products, and our trusted partners,” Gresham said.
“This transaction will ensure key knowledge and IP is retained in Australia, enabling future investment and innovation in key HF systems antenna products.
“It will also ensure supply chain assurance from our trusted network of industry partners for HF systems antenna products in Australia and globally.”
