Wodonga TAFE will lead SM TAFE and eight other providers across the country in the delivery of more than 100 accredited and non-accredited courses for the construction, engineering, mechanical, electrical, and electronics trades.
It’s expected that more than 2,000 students per year will benefit from training in the vocational education and training facilities.
South Metropolitan TAFE managing director Terry Durant said SM TAFE has more than 20 years’ experience in educating defence personnel at its purpose-built facilities.
“Thousands of sailors, soldiers, and aviators will soon be able to further develop their skills in technical trades in locations where they work and live,” he said.
“I am delighted that South Metropolitan TAFE will be one of the leading providers to prepare defence personnel with world-class skills that will protect Australia’s sovereignty.”
SM TAFE will commence delivery of certificate IV and diploma level qualifications to Royal Australian Navy personnel as part of the new JTTTS contract from February next year, providing electronics, engineering, electrical systems, welding, marine technician and air conditioning qualifications to sailors based in Western Australia.
