The Reflect RAP is expected to be the first of four reconciliation action plans to guide the prime’s long-term commitment to reconciliation and will be governed by an internal working group.
Lockheed Martin Australia committed to a transparent process, reporting on its progress to ensure that commitments are being delivered and remain relevant.
The document includes 13 core actions, including strengthening participation with Indigenous organisations, celebrating National Reconciliation Week, using the prime’s influence to promote reconciliation, increasing the understanding of Indigenous cultures, observing cultural protocols and recognising Indigenous cultures and histories by celebrating NAIDOC week.
According to Lockheed Martin Australia chief executive Warren McDonald, the Reflect RAP will deepen the prime’s relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and improve appreciation for Indigenous history.
“Lockheed Martin Australia’s Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan formally marks the beginning of our reconciliation journey. Over the next year, we will use it to build trust and strengthen our relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, deepen our understanding and respect for their rich histories, cultures and achievements, and explore our sphere of influence,” he explained.
“Our Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan also underpins our commitment to shaping an organisational culture that values diversity and reflects the communities in which we work and live. To this end, we are reviewing and creating meaningful opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to support and enhance Lockheed Martin Australia’s capability and growth.”
Karen Mundine, chief executive officer of Reconciliation Australia, welcomed the prime’s commitment to reconciliation.
“Reconciliation Australia welcomes Lockheed Martin Australia to the program with the formal endorsement of its inaugural Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan,” she said.
“Every reconciliation journey begins with thoughtful steps and meaningful actions. Lockheed Martin Australia’s plan is a significant step towards fostering deeper relationships, respect, and opportunities with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within the defence industry and beyond.
“In taking this first step, Lockheed Martin Australia joins a network of more than 2,200 corporate, government, and not-for-profit organisations that have made a formal commitment to reconciliation through the Reconciliation Action Plan program.”
The first Reconciliation Action Plan will form the basis for future RAPs.
Lockheed Martin Australia recognised that the release of the plan reinforces Australia’s national movement for reconciliation.
