ASC, headquartered in Osbourne, has put out the call for individuals to work on modern nuclear technology and undertake training in the US, and eventually securing a career in Australia’s conventionally armed nuclear-powered submarine program.
Individuals will reportedly live, work, and learn in the US at Pearl Harbor (Hawaii) for two to three years, with some roles completing placements at other locations throughout the USA during the full course of the assignment.
Individuals with qualifications, skills, and experience such as electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, naval architects, structural engineers, quality assurance inspectors, non-destructive testing technicians, and radiological controls (health, training, monitoring) are being encouraged to apply.
Applicants must be an Australian citizen, be willing to live and work overseas in the United States for up to three years, be eligible for an NV1 Level Australian Defence Security Clearance, be eligible to obtain an A2 working visa and meet other specific deployment requirements.
“We’re here to support you prior to departing for the US and when you are overseas,” according to ASC.
“Be paid to work, train, and live in the United States for the next 2–3 years (locations include Pearl Harbor or Virginia), setting you up for a secure career back home in Australia. Work on US Virginia Class conventionally armed nuclear-powered submarines and cutting-edge nuclear technology.
“Undertake world-leading training in nuclear technology. Have access to benefits and entitlements to support relocation and your time living and working in the US (such as cost-of-living allowances, housing assistance, family assistance).
“Return home to a secure job in Western Australia in the conventionally armed nuclear-powered submarine program.
“The conventionally armed nuclear-powered submarine program will be the greatest industrial undertaking Australia has ever embarked upon, both in scale and technical complexity. It’s estimated that the program, as a whole, will generate around 20,000 direct and indirect jobs.
“The program represents an incredible opportunity to build a uniquely fulfilling career, working on some of the most advanced defence technology in the world. Thousands of jobs will be created at ASC over the coming decades as the nuclear-powered submarine program evolves.
“Discover a deeper purpose working at ASC. A career at ASC offers interesting and diverse work; provides opportunities for professional development and personal growth; and recognises the need for flexibility and work/life balance. It’s why working at ASC is like no other job. It’s a deeper purpose that we can all be proud of.”
