Joined by Assistant Minister for Defence Matt Thistlethwaite, CAE Australia opened its new Innovation Centre at the company’s regional headquarters in Sydney as it looks to introduce new advanced technologies into the Australian market.

The opening ceremony for the Innovation Centre was held on 28 June and also attended by local federal member for Reid Sally Sitou, alongside the company’s key industry stakeholders.

The Innovation Centre will enable CAE Australia’s regional customers to gain first-hand experience of CAE’s latest training solutions, helping them to identify training requirements and trial what the new capabilities will mean for Australia’s current and future Defence, security, and aviation personnel.

Technologies located within the Innovation Centre include the CAE UAS Mission Trainer, which will leverage artificial intelligence and biometric technologies such as gaze tracking and heart rate monitoring to better understand how students can assimilate information while undertaking challenging tasks.

The centre also features the CAE Sprint VR Trainer which has been used to prove the benefits of AI-assisted coaching and biometric assessment on flight skill development. Last year, the company partnered with the Japanese Air Self-Defense Force to examine the efficacy of virtual reality training with 30 cadets across different levels of expertise taking part in the trial.

In addition to showcasing the company’s current and emerging technologies, the Innovation Centre is also expected to improve CAE Australia’s local research and development, providing a space for the local workforce to research, modify, and test solutions tailored for the Australian market.

CAE currently has over 300 staff in Australia, with 30 per cent of their workforce former Australian Defence Force personnel.

"We are proud to open a dedicated space for CAE Australia to actively research, modify, and advance training solutions that are tailored to the needs of our Australian customers and end users," Matthew Sibree, Managing Director Indo-Pacific, CAE Defence & Security said.

"The capabilities demonstrated in our Innovation Centre show how our personnel, our most important asset, can be equipped with the latest training approaches and technologies they need to succeed in their mission."

Speaking during the opening, Sally Sitou MP reflected on the passion that former service personnel have for the equipment that they intimately worked with throughout their careers, and how the veteran community was well placed to support continued training and development of Defence capability.

The company hopes that the capabilities showcased within their new Innovation Centre will help students improve their proficiencies in safe, secured and tailored environments, across aircrew and maritime training, specialised engineering support, sustainment, maintenance and training system upgrades.
