Lockheed Martin has announced a manufacturing partnership with Indra, Escribano Mechanical and Engineering and ICM, awarding purchase orders for AN/SPY-7(V)2 components on the Spanish Navy’s F-110 frigate.

These purchase orders are part of Lockheed Martin’s commitment to expanding its international supply chain, with these orders to integrate Spain into the company’s global SPY-7 supply chain, enhancing resiliency and expanding production capacity.

Amr Hussein, vice-president of multi-domain combat solutions at Lockheed Martin, said, “These strategic collaborations empower local industries, strengthen communities, and drive economic growth, all while providing the most advanced defence capabilities for 21st century security.”

Lockheed Martin and Spanish industry have worked together to produce over 90 water coolers and auxiliary equipment, 30,000 cables,1.8 million power supplies, and microelectronic and RF components for the global SPY-1 fleet, which is currently fitted to Spain’s fleet of F-105 guided missile frigates and the Royal Australian Navy’s variant, the Hobart Class.

This latest deal builds on more than two decades of partnering with Spanish industry on critical radar development and naval and airborne computing systems.

“By incorporating Spanish industry into radar production, we are committing to diversify our supply chain and add capacity that enhances our global supply chain,” Hussein said.

Lockheed Martin’s SPY-7 radar is described as “the most advanced technology” that will provide the capability to make warfighter decisions – accurately and quickly. SPY-7 has the ability to detect, track and engage sophisticated ballistic missile and advanced air threats. It engages multiple targets simultaneously with proven interceptors.

The SPY-7 is also interoperable with other radars and platforms and is designed to be fully compatible with the Aegis Combat System and is being fielded with US and international customers, such as the US Missile Defense Agency for the Long-Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR), US Navy for the Spanish F-110 Frigate, and the Canadian Surface Combatant.
