Valued at around $25 million, the contract builds on the initial agreement established in May 2019 and highlights the success of the partnership to date.
Over the next 20 months, South Australian-based PMB will work closely with the MOD to finalise the development and testing of the system, tailored to the specific needs of their nuclear submarine operations.
The collaboration will culminate in a qualified battery module and land-based trials to verify the system’s operational performance.
Mike Hartas, general manager of new technologies at PMB, said the company is pleased to continue the innovative work for the MOD’s nuclear submarines.
“Our team in Australia and the United Kingdom has worked tirelessly since 2019 to get to this stage, and to finally see our technology mature to this state positions us well to support future AUKUS contracts in Australia and the US.”
Established in 1988 as Pacific Marine Batteries, PMB is a key supplier to the Royal Australian Navy’s Collins Class submarines, providing main storage batteries and associated services.
In recent years, PMB has expanded its expertise to design and supply advanced technology submarine batteries for a host of international companies.
