“Your unrelenting effort over many years has delivered remarkable excellence in land management,” the recognition read.

“It has been noted that you take pride in your work, whether it is public facing or behind the scenes. You are the exemplar of a team who pursues work done well for its own sake.”

The commendation reflected Downer’s commitment to delivering for Defence, David Morris, general manager base and estate management - Defence at Downer Group, said.

“We understand it is a remarkable accomplishment for civilians to receive a Royal Australian Navy Gold Commendation.

“This acknowledgment is a source of immense pride for Downer, testament to our commitment to deliver the highest-quality service to Defence. Our estate management teams may work behind the scenes, but every single job they do, big or small, is done with a passionate drive to enable defence capability and we are deeply honoured to have this recognised by the Chief of Navy.”

The recognition comes as the company unveiled its Downer Defence Veterans’ Family Scholarships, encouraging the children and grandchildren of Australian veterans to pursue tertiary education.

The three scholarships will help remove financial barriers for the families of Defence veterans and will be overseen by the Australian Veterans & Children Assistance Trust (AVCAT).

AVCAT manages tertiary education scholarships for the children and grandchildren of former service members.

The applications are open now and will close on 31 October 2024.

According to a statement from the company, the scholarships will be awarded based on financial need, academic potential and deservedness.
