The Commonwealth government and Boeing have signed a renewed, five-year contract for the company’s participation in the Global Supply Chain Program, expanding export opportunities for Australian businesses.

Over the next five years, Boeing is on track to top AU$1 billion (US$672.1 million) of awarded export contracts to Australian-based suppliers since joining the program in 2007.

Maria Fernandez, president of Boeing Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific, celebrated this renewal of Boeing’s Global Supply Chain Program, saying, “Boeing’s commitment to Australia extends beyond providing the world’s best aircraft, defence platforms and services.”

Boeing has provided more than 1,600 bid opportunities which has resulted in more than AU$820 million in export contracts awarded to 70 suppliers across the country, with recent success stories including:

  • Mincham, a family-owned small and medium-sized enterprise in South Australia, is manufacturing composites and fairings for the future Australian fleet of 29 AH-64E Apaches.
  • Carbon Revolution in Victoria has developed a more sustainable CH-47 Chinook wheel concept that is 35 per cent lighter and as capable as the current wheel.
  • Ferra Engineering in Queensland has recently been awarded JDAM ER wing kit export contracts as well as the Vertical Spar Box for Australia’s future fleet of Apaches.

“Our partnership with the Australian government to provide significant export opportunities to Australian companies, many of which are small or medium-sized enterprises, helps support high-tech jobs across the country as well as a pathway for these companies to be an integral part of our global business.”

As part of the program, Boeing also provides Australian companies with marketing, training and mentoring support, Fernandez said.

With a presence dating back to 1927, Boeing Australia today has 4,500-plus employees working across the broadest aerospace portfolio in Australia, including advanced manufacturing, defence, services, research and development, and uncrewed systems.
