Australian defence supplier Defence Seals & Spares has unveiled SealFast, a new brand and manufacturing facility that will introduce cutting-edge technology and specialised expertise to be based in Sydney.
Australia’s defence sector is set for a major boost with the launch of a new advanced manufacturing capability, enhancing sovereign self-reliance and strengthening critical defence projects. This new initiative is expected to create new jobs, bolster domestic supply chains and reinforce Australia’s defence self-sufficiency.
Located in Sydney, the state-of-the-art facility will focus on producing vulcanised seals, which are essential components in defence systems. Equipped with advanced technology developed in Norway, the facility will enable faster turnaround times and reduced dependence on international suppliers.
The initiative aligns with Australia’s broader efforts to diversify and strengthen its defence supply chain, ensuring rapid response capabilities in an increasingly uncertain global security environment.
Tracey Lovelace, director of Defence Seals & Spares, said, “This new capability represents a significant step forward for Australia's defence industry.”
The expansion of local manufacturing comes at a critical time, with global supply chain disruptions and evolving security challenges reinforcing the need for greater domestic control over key defence technologies.
This initiative directly supports the Australian government’s Defence Industrial Capability Plan, which aims to increase sovereign manufacturing capacity and ensure that Australia can sustain its defence forces without excessive reliance on overseas suppliers.
Lovelace added, “We are proud to contribute to a stronger and more self-sufficient Australian manufacturing sector. Our goal is to provide the Australian Defence Force with the highest-quality, locally produced vulcanised seals, while supporting industry growth and creating skilled jobs for Australians.”
Beyond its strategic importance, the new facility will deliver substantial economic benefits, driving job creation, innovation and investment in Australia’s defence sector. By fostering local expertise and production, it lays the foundation for future technological advancements and enhanced operational resilience.
With this new sovereign manufacturing capability, Australia is taking a decisive step towards securing its defence future while building a more robust, competitive and sustainable defence industry.
