UK technology group Cohort plc has reportedly completed its acquisition of Australia-based satellite communication terminals developer EM Solutions.

The purchase is considered Cohort’s largest acquisition to date, with the deal aligning with the company’s growth strategy to maximise opportunities for naval satellite communications, provides access to the fast-growing satellite communications market and reinforce the group’s presence in Australasia.

EM Solutions is a developer of innovative microwave and on-the-move radio and satellite products that help to deliver high-speed telecommunications across the world.

EM Solutions’ principal activity is the design, assembly, test and support of satellite on-the move terminals for defence and government customers.

It also provides high-end broadband radio transceivers and other RF subsystems such as low noise receivers and solid-state high-power transmitters for defence and commercial customers.

“We are delighted to welcome EM Solutions to the Cohort group. This is a significant step for Cohort, broadening the group’s strong naval systems service offering, bringing new customers and enhancing the global footprint of the combined business,” Andrew Thomis, Cohort chief executive, said.

“The increasing security challenges in Southeast Asia and Indo-Pacific mean that Australia is an important strategic region. This, combined with the increasing trend toward satellite communications, means there are clear growth opportunities for both EM Solutions and the broader Cohort Group. We look forward to serving EM Solutions’ customers, current and future, in the years to come.”

EM Solutions’ unique capabilities will enable the group to diversify into the expanding satellite communications market and complement its existing naval offer, according to Cohort.

EM Solutions will become the seventh independent business within the group and will report through Cohort’s communications and intelligence division.

“EM Solutions are equally delighted to join the Cohort Group,” according to John Logan, joint managing director at EM Solutions.

“This is an opportunity for us to collaborate with other businesses within the group to enhance our joint research and development offerings and maximise opportunities for providing our advanced satellite communications technology to more customers all over the world.”
