Saab Australia has strengthened its commitment to developing sovereign combat systems expertise with the successful delivery of its Introduction to Combat Systems Engineering training course.

Saab Australia has strengthened its commitment to developing sovereign combat systems expertise with the successful delivery of its Introduction to Combat Systems Engineering training course.

Held over ten days in Saab’s newly constructed Sovereign Combat Systems Collaboration Centre at Mawson Lakes in South Australia, the course was delivered to external participants for the first time, marking a significant step in upskilling Australia’s defence industry workforce.

Supported by the Commonwealth through the Australian Government’s Modern Manufacturing Initiative, Saab’s SCSCC will enable industry, academia, and government to develop next-generation combat systems and foster a robust defence innovation ecosystem.

With 20 participants, including 13 from external organisations, the course provided professionals with an industry-recognised certification, equipping them with the technical knowledge to contribute to Australia’s naval defence programs.

“Experience in combat systems is essential for delivering the capability the Royal Australian Navy needs for its current and future fleet,” said Saab Australia Managing Director Andy Keough CSC.

“It has been encouraging to witness the collaboration that has occurred between the participants and our staff delivering the training as we strengthen the relationships that enhance our Navy’s combat management system, AusCMS.”

“Saab’s training course is helping to accelerate the growth of combat systems engineering skills, providing industry and defence with the expertise needed to support continuous naval shipbuilding and sustainment.”

Guided by expert facilitators, the course explored the fundamentals of combat systems engineering, technical management, and combat systems support to the naval warfighter.

Participants were able to apply their knowledge to real-world challenges, ensuring they can contribute to the design and development of combat systems solutions.

Saab has delivered warfighting capability to the Australian Defence Force for more than 35 years and is the sovereign combat management system provider for the Royal Australian Navy’s surface fleet.
