Our own work chat groups suddenly went into overdrive last night, as it looked very much like the X account of American defence contractor Anduril had been hacked.
It looked like the defence technology firm’s X account had been compromised, but instead, it’s all part of a new recruitment drive called “Don’t work at Anduril”.
“Palmer just told me he wants a working prototype of ‘the big robot from Pacific Rim’ by Friday fml,” said a post made at 4.59pm on 19 February.
Palmer Luckey is Anduril’s founder.
Other posts referred to “soldering for eight hours straight” or talking about how a fellow employee must be “realllllllly into sword art online”.
The apparently rogue posting spree ended with a simple exhortation – “don’t work at anduril”.
So, suspecting some form of foul play – a compromised account or an aggrieved insider – Defence Connect's sister publication Cyber Daily contacted Anduril for comment, only to find out that it’s all above board, on purpose, and part of a new recruitment campaign called – you guessed it – “Don’t work at Anduril”.
As the accompanying video commercial – which was posted a day after the campaign began on X – said, Anduril is just “built different”.
More than a little strange, but perhaps kooky engineers with a terminally online sense of humour are exactly what the company is looking for.
Anduril Australia announced last year that it was building its first Australian manufacturing facility to deliver Ghost Shark extra large autonomous underwater vehicles for the Royal Australian Navy, along with the commercial Dive-XL variant.
