A Queensland business regarded as one of Defence’s ‘big’ SMEs has been nominated for two awards in the 2017 City of Ipswich Business Awards.

TAE Aerospace, which began on a laptop with just six employees, has been nominated for the Business of the Year award, while its Springfield-based subsidiary Fountx has been nominated for the Innovation Award for its wearable technology – a hand-free system that uses a helmet-mounted camera and a near-eye display to allow aviation technicians to interact with remotely-located experts in real time.
TAE Aerospace, which got its big start with Defence by maintaining the F911’s electroplating wing pivot pins which then grew to painting requirements, currently has around 230 employees.
The aerospace company was selected as the regional maintenance, repair, overhaul and upgrade provider for the Pratt & Whitney F135 engine that powers the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter earlier this year.
TAE Aerospace also specialises in extending the life of military gas-turbine engines. They are the only Australian-owned military gas turbine engine MRO provider and have the largest engine MRO capability in Australia. The company recently extended its services to the Australian Defence Force by taking on responsibility for the AGT1500 turbine engine in the Australian Army’s M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank.
The winners of the City of Ipswich business awards will be announced at the gala event on 4 November.
