The Kalaetron Attack demonstrated its ability to identify and jam even cutting-edge air defence radars during a recent round of ground and field tests, sensor provider HENSOLDT announced recently.
According to the company, the jamming system is supported by artificial intelligence which enables the classification of unknown threats through the evaluation of big data – combining years of research in the sector.
“Control of the electromagnetic spectrum is an essential prerequisite for information superiority, and thus the success of military missions and the protection of one’s own soldiers,” says Celia Pelaz, chief strategy officer and head of the spectrum dominance division at HENSOLDT.
“Kalaetron Attack also makes it possible to deny the enemy the use of this spectrum – for air defence, for example.”
New 3D printing capabilities have reportedly enabled the company to condense the component’s design and equip the system into pods for use onboard flying platforms including use as an escort jammer for the Eurofighter to provide essential electronic warfare capabilities.
Kalaetron Attack is a member of the company’s Kalaetron family, used for signal reconnaissance in the German armed forces. It includes cognitive software, a digitised broadband sensor and an electronically controllable jammer.
