Dr Nazifa Tahir, principal engineer at QinetiQ Australia, has been announced as the recipient of the company’s fifth fellowship scheme, which rewards the company’s top scientists, engineers and technical leaders.
Dr Tahir was awarded the fellowship following her contributions to QinetiQ, their customers and the defence industry, and is an expert in RF front-end systems, radar technologies and data/signal processing.
Throughout her career at QinetiQ, Dr Tahir has worked across an array of projects for the company’s customers, including the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG), the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) and the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).
Recently, she has collaborated on the design and integration of an RF transmitter for the company’s Hammerhead maritime target, as well as working on the concept design of an RF payload for a low-Earth orbit satellite based synthetic aperture radar.
“Nazifa’s trusted expertise and deep technical knowledge has seen her establish strong customer relationships and advise on the adoption of new technologies within Defence. Her leadership has been critical in supporting Defence’s implementation of key technologies to meet future operational requirements,” Craig Fallshaw, chief engineer at QinetiQ Australia, said.
Dr Tahir completed her doctorate in 2013 and has served as a reviewer for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) journal. Over recent years, she has mentored young engineers both within the company and at the DSTG.
Dr Tahir was also a recent a finalist at the Defence Connect Australian Defence Industry Awards (ADIA) in 2020.
“I am honoured and will continue to contribute with excellence to the growth and development of both QinetiQ and the engineering community, especially women in engineering,” Dr Tahir said.
As the fifth recipient, Dr Tahir joins Tim Cooper, Alex Kolodin, Feng Rice and Colin Cockroft as QinetiQ Fellows.
The fellows are selected through a panel of senior leaders and assessed against rigorous criteria.
“This is a significant recognition of Nazifa’s technical excellence and standing as a professional, one of which she can be very proud. I think it is fair to say that one who is awarded a fellowship is already conducting themselves as a fellow should. I look forward to hearing of Nazifa’s plan for the future with the additional resources and network that comes with the fellowship,” said QinetiQ Australia’s international engineering director, Michael Houston.
