Australian company EPE has teamed up with US drone manufacturer Skydio to offer its autonomous Skydio X2D drone to the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Australian company EPE has teamed up with US drone manufacturer Skydio to offer its autonomous Skydio X2D drone to the Australian and New Zealand markets.

Earlier in the year, the Skydio X2D autonomous system was selected for the US Army’s Short Range Reconnaissance program of record.

According to a release from the companies, the system utilises Skydio Autonomy, an AI-based autonomy software. The software enables the machine to undertake military reconnaissance, search and rescue and security patrol missions.

“Our missions align, EPEs focus is to protect our soldiers and first responders through innovative solutions,” Warwick Penrose, Australian veteran and owner of EPE, said.

EPE supports Defence’s Experimentation Teams by delivering human machine teaming technologies. It is expected that the Skydio system will meet Defence’s needs in the areas of reconnaissance and surveillance.

The system is compliant with supply chain needs and provides cyber security protection.

Earlier in the year, EPE announced that it has partnered with US company Shield AI to bring their Nova 2 uncrewed system to the Australian and New Zealand markets.

According to a release from EPE, the drone employs cutting-edge path planning and computer vision algorithms that enable the system to autonomously navigate complex subterranean and multistorey buildings.

The systems enable the drone to navigate through the buildings even in the absence of GPS, communications or human pilots.

At the core of the offering between the two companies, EPE explains, is a mutual commitment to keep Australian and American service personnel safe.
