The defence company has renewed its partnership with the veterans support group.

Serco Australia has formalised its partnership with Soldier On at a pledge signing ceremony on 23 November, attended by Serco Defence’s managing director Clint Thomas, AM, CSC, and Soldier On’s interim CEO, Prue Slaughter.

Serco’s pledge involves a commitment to support veteran and reservist employment across Australia.

“Serco has supported Soldier On as a platinum partner since 2018, and proudly employs 550 veterans and 180 reservists across Australia ensuring veterans and their families have opportunities to thrive in line with Soldier On’s vision,” Thomas said.

“As a veteran of the Royal Australian Navy myself, I am incredibly proud of Serco’s commitment to support our veteran community,” Thomas said.

Serco has committed to attracting, engaging, and retaining transitioning, former, reserve and military family members in a bid to foster an inclusive environment.

“As a trusted partner of the Australian Defence Force (ADF), it is critical that Serco has and maintains a comprehensive understanding of their unique operational environment and requirements — and our veteran workforce allows us to do this,” Thomas added.

Soldier On interim CEO Prue Slaughter welcomed Serco’s pledge, which would support the growth of the Pathways Program.

“By signing the pledge, Serco is not only committing to support veterans throughout the recruitment stage, but to also maintain a veteran supportive approach to its workplace in all aspects of retention, culture, and opportunities within its teams,” Slaughter said.

“When each organisation signs the pledge, we enable more veterans and their families to secure productive futures.”

Thomas said this latest commitment would build on Serco’s efforts to bolster support for the veteran community, which includes membership of the Industry Advisory Committee (IAC) on Veterans’ Employment and contribution to the ministerial advice and collaborate on policy development; supporting ADF Transition Seminars to provide career advice and mentorship.

“We have also established a veterans, reservists and Defence Family Members Advisory Committee (VRFAC) that actively engages with our veteran community, to develop policy and systems to support and drive improvement initiatives across the business,” Thomas added.

“With hundreds of veterans working across our Australian business, and even more globally, we are privileged to call veterans our colleagues while supporting their transition from the ADF to civilian life, setting them up for success with rewarding and meaningful career opportunities.”
