Indigenous-owned and operated business TVN On-Country which works primarily with Defence, was recognised as the Regional Business of the Year in the 2022 Kinaway Chamber of Commerce Business Awards at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium.

This is the second year that the company has taken home an accolade.

Jebb Hutchison, managing director of TVN On-Country, described the rapid growth of the company, with almost 50 employees at the company’s head office and operates offices in Melbourne, Hobart and Adelaide — despite being less than five years old.

“We are more than a team; we are a family,” Hutchison explained.

“We started out as three friends working out of a rumpus room of a family member’s house in West Albury and managed to secure a Department of Defence construction project.

“We just needed that one opportunity, which Defence and JLL/ Augility gave us — everything else is history!”

Many of the company’s workforce are members of the veteran community, with 20 per cent of the employees identifying as First Nations Peoples.

The company is currently also building a pipeline of Indigenous talent, having launched the charity On-Country Pathways. The charity provides employment pathways for First Nations Youth in the construction industry and related trades.

Already, several businesses have agreed to partner with the organisation to support the initiative.
