Australia will meet with senior government representatives from Singapore, a comprehensive strategic partner (CSP), to discuss its defence, security and economic interests.

Minister for Defence Marise Payne, who has traveled to Singapore with Foreign Minister Julie Bishop and Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment Steven Ciobo, will sign the Pearce Treaty to enable Singapore's Air Force to continue its training at RAAF Base Pearce in Western Australia.
Ministers Payne and Ciobo will also lead a business delegation to explore trade opportunities that the CSP creates.
The delegation, with a strong contingent from north Queensland, will focus on defence, construction and engineering, and communication and technology services.
Singapore is currently in the process of finding land in Queensland to set up a training base near Townsville as part of the $2.2 billion Australia-Singapore Military Training Initiative.
The initiative will see the delivery of enhanced training areas in central and north Queensland for the growth and development of the Australian Defence Force, and will provide support to Australia’s bilateral defence relationship with Singapore, part of the government’s commitment to creating strong and enduring economic opportunities for local communities and businesses.
Development is anticipated to start in 2019 and finish in 2026.
