Uncrewed aerial systems developer Steadicopter and defence technology provider BIRD Aerosystems have partnered on the delivery of a new advanced hybrid unmanned helicopter for maritime intelligence missions, dubbed the Black Eagle 50H.
With an endurance time of five hours, the capability is designed to map all vessels over a radius of 200 kilometres across an array of conditions within a cost-effective platform.
The system is open architecture and features BIRD Aerosystems’ µMPR which enables the system to detect and track maritime vessels.
“Maritime border protection is one of the most prominent needs in the world today,” Noam Lidor, vice-president sales, marketing and business development at Steadicopter, said.
“The combination of the proven advantages of a hybrid unmanned helicopter system with long flight endurance that enables coverage of large maritime surfaces, with radar capabilities for identifying and locating hostile ships at ranges of several tens of kilometres, provides the vessel’s crew with an accurate intelligence picture within a wide radius of hundreds of kilometres, thereby giving them a significant advantage for mission success.”
According to Ronen Factor, co-chief executive officer and founder of BIRD Aerosystems, the system is a cost-effective solution.
“Ideal for the protection of maritime borders and strategic assets, BIRD’s innovative µMPR cuts through sea clutter and significantly increases mission effectiveness and cost efficiency.
“Small and lightweight, it can easily be installed on unmanned aerial systems, such as Steadicopter’s Black Eagle 50H, to create a cost-effective surveillance platform with excellent performance.”
