Ventia appoints new NZ project director

Ventia has appointed a former deputy director of New Zealand Defence Force Shared Services to broaden the company’s defence and health industry offering in New Zealand.

Ventia has appointed a former deputy director of New Zealand Defence Force Shared Services to broaden the company’s defence and health industry offering in New Zealand.

Vickey Honey, former deputy director of NZDF Shared Services, has been appointed as Ventia’s project director for health, operating out of Wellington, New Zealand.

Under the new appointment, Honey will lead the company’s collaboration with centralAlliance to deliver essential services and asset management at Palmerston North Hospital, Whanganui Hospital, and health centres across Manawatū and Whanganui.

Honey hopes that her new role will allow the company to expand its footprint across defence and social infrastructure in the country.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the NZDF and got immense satisfaction from helping to provide the key non-military functions like travel, accommodation, housing, and messing and dining that support those who serve,” she said.

“Ventia has developed its defence sector capabilities over many years and is well positioned to provide support functions to any defence force around the world.”

Derek Osborn, Ventia’s defence and social infrastructure group executive, explained that Honey’s expertise would be critical for the company’s continued growth.

“Vicky is a highly respected female leader, and her appointment adds real depth, diversity, and experience to our leadership team in Aotearoa,” Osborn said.

“She has worked directly with the NZDF to manage its shared services functions in the past, so few people are better equipped than her to mentor our team as they grow Ventia’s New Zealand defence sector presence.”

Ventia has partnered with the Australian Defence Force for over 30 years across maintenance, estimate management, and support services.

The company provides employment to over 5,500 people and is undertaking over $5.1 billion of essential services work across Australia and New Zealand.

In January, the essential services provider revealed that it had been awarded a contract to support Babcock Australasia in delivering upgrades to the ADF’s Defence High Frequency Communications System (DHFCS).

This $64 million contract will see Ventia support Babcock and Defence under the JP 9101 – Enhanced Defence High Frequency Communications System (EDHFCS) program, which will provide Australian and allied armed forces with the ability to securely communicate using voice and data from almost any location across the globe.

Mark Ralston, Ventia’s group executive for telecommunications, said the company was pleased to be working with Babcock on this strategically important Defence project, saying, “Ventia’s strategy is to redefine service excellence by being client-focused, innovative, and sustainable. Our expert capabilities and proven telecommunications experience support Babcock’s strategy and vision in providing secure, robust communications that are resilient and interoperable.”

Ventia’s scope includes groundworks, installation of new antennas and other contractor-furnished equipment, along with internal shelter works. The company has more than 25 years of telecommunications experience in Australia.
